BE@RBRICK Series 14 Cute "Oden-kun" [Lily Franky] (100%)

Lily Franky is one of Japan's most versatile creatives: illustrator, author, musician and actor all in one. With his warm-hearted, slightly quirky picture-book universe centred on Oden-kun, he has created a character who enjoys cult status in Japan. The little hero's world is set in the bubbling pot of the popular winter dish oden, where ingredients become lovable characters who embody friendship, composure and everyday poetry. For Series 14 from 2007, this charming fellow moved into the Cute category and thus into the world of Bearbricks.

The design consistently carries Franky's pared-back drawing style over to the iconic bear silhouette. The body glows in a rich sunshine yellow with a velvety matt finish that further emphasises its friendly charm. A blue headband wraps around the head and bears a knotted emblem at the front, very much in the style of a traditional Japanese hachimaki. Below it, two curved eyebrows sit above small, dark button eyes that give the face a mischievous expression. The eye-catcher is the wide mouth with full, pink lips, shaped into a hearty smile. Matching the headband, a blue loincloth and blue feet add touches of colour that round off the overall look in a balanced way.

The figure comes as a single in 100% format, around 7 cm tall, and belongs to Series 14, whose models were originally offered as a blind box. It is precisely licensed characters from Japanese pop culture that are barely known outside Japan that make such early series releases particularly appealing to collectors: they document the breadth of the line and show how diversely Medicom Toy was already interpreting the Bearbrick form back then.

Are you looking for a Bearbrick that instantly spreads good cheer? This compact ray of sunshine fits on any desk or in any display cabinet, and makes an original gift for fans of Japanese illustration, lovers of the Cute category or anyone who wants to add a genuine curiosity with heart to their collection.
